About Us

The Rev. David Marshall

The Rev David MarshallRector

About twenty years ago I had a profound experience of God’s love and came to understand that my purpose, and all of our purpose, is to share that love. That experience has continued to unfold in my life as a husband, father, and priest. Jesus gives us access to life that is real life and I am devoted to sharing the reality and experience of that sacred way of life through my ministry.

I have been rector of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Shoreline, Washington, on the northern edge of Seattle, since February of 2009. In that time, we have seen a transformation in our ministries through neighborhood engagement. We started serving a free dinner at the church once a week, and we also deliver meals to four different homeless encampments. In 2015 we fed 6,102 people in camps, and 5,884 people here at the church. About once a year we host a tent camp for homeless people on our property for 90 days.

I came to ministry as a second career in 2003 after 17 years as a software developer. I love the spiritual, emotional, and intellectual challenges of ministry and long to be able to offer more to people who are outside the church.

I am married, have three adult children, and this year became a grandfather. We are blessed to have all of our children still in Seattle and we host “spaghetti and breadsticks dinner” every Sunday evening with our kids and their partners. I am also an avid rower, competing in both singles sculling and mixed doubles events.

As a second career priest, I have lived many of the challenges my parishioners face. I have struggled to balance the priorities of a career, family, marriage, and faith. I am a devoted follower of Jesus because this way of life works. Both as a software developer and as a priest, I have found meaning and purpose in my life through the lessons and experiences of a Christian way of life. I invite you to experience the transformational power of God in your life by joining us in worship and in the Christian way of life at St. Dunstan’s Church.
