On the five Sundays of Lent, and on Palm Sunday, Mother Catharine and I will be facilitating a program called, Growing a Rule of Life. A rule of life is just that: a rule for how you will live. The program we will offer looks at four areas of our lives: our relationship with God, self, others, and creation, but the program includes far more than the five Sunday sessions.
This is a rich program that was developed by the Society of Saint John the Evangelist (SSJE) and the Center for the Ministry of Teaching at Virginia Theological Seminary. When you sign up at the SSJE web site (www.SSJE.org/growrule) you will receive a daily email with a short video for you to watch. Then, at each Sunday session, we will watch a brief video presentation, enjoy conversation, and work with the materials together to support you as you develop your own rule of life.
Participants will be able to:
- Design a balanced plan for growing into a deeper relationship with God, Self, Others, and Creation.
- Celebrate areas of their lives that are thriving and explore areas that need extra nourishment.
- Tune their sensitivity to the rhythms of nature to help them in keeping a Rule of Life.
- Grow in fellowship with other participants and support them through the growing process.
We will need to prepare materials for each participant, so please sign up on the list in the parish hall or e-mail Mother Catharine at firstname.lastname@example.org.
