On Monday, September 19th, Mayor Chris Roberts of Shoreline issued a proclamation honoring St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church for our work feeding the hungry. Josef Hinkofer was there and was honored for his role starting and leading this ministry. Liz Hinkofer was also thanked for her role supporting the meals for camps and her leadership to start the Community Dinners program. As I accepted the proclamation I also thanked Safeway for their support with donations of food.
Here is the text of the proclamation:
City of Shoreline
WHEREAS, the City of Shoreline recognizes adequate nutrition as a basic need for each citizen; and
WHEREAS, food insecurity is a concern for one in four Shoreline residents; and
WHEREAS, many studies show the detrimental effects of hunger, whether it is the health of seniors, or the inability of children to focus as students; and
WHEREAS, St Dunstan’s Episcopal Church provides meals to 350 hungry people each week; and
WHEREAS the Tuesday evening meal at St. Dunstan’s provides a model way to feed humgry people with food that would otherwise be thrown away.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Chris Roberts, Mayor of the City of Shoreline, on behalf of the Shoreline City Council, do hereby proclaim September 19, 2016 as the
MAYOR’S DAY OF CONCERN FOR THE HUNGRY
in the City of Shoreline and urge all citizens to support the weekly meal programs offered by local congregations with donations of food, funds and time.
Christopher Roberts, Mayor
Yours in Christ,
