Ryan’s House for Youth on Whidbey Island is not, strictly speaking, one of our ministries, but we have a very special relationship with the organization. Several years ago, we became aware of the problem of homeless teenagers on Whidbey Island when Mary E. Pacher began working with Ryan’s House. Our own youth hosted youth and staff from Ryan’s House for a weekend retreat that turned out to be life changing. We often send them gifts we find as we “glean” to gather food for our meals programs. Just this week, Harvey took six new bicycles to the Ryan’s House facility in Coupeville.
Mary E. Pacher, the director of our children’s ministries, is vice president of the board of directors of Ryan’s House. She also tutors and offers counselling to the young clients to help them get through high school. In the past year Ryan’s House raised the funds to purchase and convert an unused motel into a center where they can offer shelter to these young people.
Our worship connects us to one another and to God and empowers us to go into our lives and into the world to do God’s work. That is what stewardship is all about. We respond to the gifts we receive and the needs we perceive by giving thanks in practical, life changing ways. Thank you for your continued support of Ryan’s House for Youth and the other ministries God has given us to do here at St. Dunstan’s Church.
Yours in Christ,
