This is an interesting question to ask, and there are many answers to it. Why indeed, should anyone be in any youth group? What are the benefits, the responsibilities and the reasons? Who is involved?
St. Dunstan’s Youth Group is special in many ways. It provides an opportunity for kids to spend time with others their age in “their world.” The world of a teenager. It’s a time to meet new friends, deepen relationships, share each other’s stories, and share the news of the God who loves them, no matter what. Meeting together allows our young people to see and interpret the world as followers of Jesus, which in turn, opens them up to a richer, more meaningful and purposeful life.
Our young people want to be respected and feel safe. They want to live a life that is filled with fun and good times and be in youth group offers that fun and those good times. Our meetings have a purpose and a direction, and they stress the message of God’s love.
We plan our meetings together, meet with young Christian youth from other churches within our Diocese, share meals together, and strengthen our values and love of God. We work on outreach so that we can help to make the world a better place. We take mission trips and pledge that we will make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Practical engagement with the poor and suffering in our world through mission work and other events focused on those in need helps with our youth’s personal development and understanding of others.
We also enjoy good times together and love and support one another. Working together as a group or team, our young people can accomplish things that they cannot do alone.
These are just a few reasons why it is important to be involved in St. Dunstan’s Youth Group. There are many more, and we invite you to become involved. We welcome you. Come and find out what is waiting for you.
