On the first day of the week, early in the morning, the women went to the tomb to prepare Jesus’ body for burial. They found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty.
The empty tomb is just the beginning. On Easter we celebrate freedom from death in the vibrant, beautiful life of resurrection. Access to resurrection does not come through understanding or having the right set of beliefs. Resurrection is an existential experience of life that is both more beautiful and more meaningful.
The Great Easter Vigil begins early in the morning, before the sunrise, with the lighting of the Paschal flame. We light a fire outside, use that to light the Paschal Candle, and then process into the Church for a glorious celebration of Easter.
This year we will have beautiful music, with Susanna on organ and piano and Charlene Kern’s singing. The service is very dramatic, starting in candlelight and continuing as the sun rises, offering more and more light, until we finally celebrate the resurrection with the singing of Alleluias.
After the Sunrise Vigil we will enjoy a delicious breakfast together. If you are coming to the 10:00AM service, you are also invited to come at 8:30 for breakfast. Our 10:00AM service will have the music of our choir and all the beautiful flowers and celebration we have come to appreciate.
