Very early on in my time at St. Dunstan’s Church I invited a group of people to create a mission statement for our congregation. I chose leaders, people active in worship, young members and older members. Among this group were Jonathan Hanneman and Shannon Walker. This group studied Ephesians as a way to get to know each other and focus on our task to create a mission statement. This was my first time working closely with Jonathan and Shannon, and I was both impressed and delighted.
Jonathan has helped lead and teach programs like our Psalm 23 Lenten study, and our programs on forgiveness and reconciliation. He served as an interim choir director for a year, and he has been an excellent Parish Administrator the past 3 years. In the midst of all this, he has also discerned a call to ordained ministry and later this month he and Shannon will move to Austin, Texas, where Jonathan will attend the Seminary of the Southwest.
I am grateful for Jonathan’s friendship and his many contributions to our congregation, and I look forward to working with him as a colleague when he finishes his formation and is ordained. Jonathan has been a blessing to our choir, to our adult education programs, and to me as rector.
You have a couple more weeks to thank Jonathan and Shannon and wish them well. Jonathan will preach on July 17th and we will wish them a fond farewell at the Summer Picnic after the service on that day. You are also invited to contribute to a purse we are collecting to support them in their new adventure. Checks can be made to St. Dunstan’s Church with Jonathan’s name in the memo line.
Yours in Christ,
