Now Is the Time to Go to Galilee

This weekend the vestry of St. Dunstan’s Church will have their annual Vestry Retreat. The theme this year is built around a three-minute video message from our new Presiding Bishop, the Most Rev. Michael Curry, which is entitled, “This is the Jesus Movement.” I encourage you to watch the video here:

Bishop Curry starts by saying:

God came among us in the person of Jesus of Nazareth to show us the Way. He came to show us the Way to life, the Way to love. He came to show us the Way beyond what often can be the nightmares of our own devisings and into the dream of God’s intending. That’s why, when Jesus called his first followers he did it with the simple words “Follow me.”

He goes on to say that the risen Jesus has gone on ahead to Galilee. It is in Galilee that we will meet him. Galilee becomes a metaphor for the world. In a powerful way, we are being challenged to look for Jesus in the world instead of seeking him only in our churches and our worship.

So this weekend our vestry will consider how we are called into the world. Now is the time to go to Galilee, for Jesus has gone on ahead and we will meet him there. Please keep us in your prayers as we form this new vestry to lead St. Dunstan’s into the world, into Galilee.

Yours in Christ,
David+
