He participated in the Crusades in 1248 and 1270. He built churches and cared for his people. All of this made up his life as a monarch, yet in his heart and soul he was a faithful son of Francis of Assisi. He led a life of inner poverty, detachment from the world and loving Our Lord above all else. We can see him as a model in our lives, to use what we have and who we are to advance the Kingdom of Jesus Christ on earth.
St. Elizabeth of Hungary 1207-1231, who shares the title of Patron Saint of the Third Order Franciscans, is celebrated on November 19th. She led a life of Franciscan Simplicity and Charity while being a member of royalty.
See you next week.
I am your bro.
